George grew up on his family's farm, "The Goat Ranch", alongside his father and mother and two older brothers, Walter and Wilbur Gragert. They raised sheep, cows, pigs, goats, and chickens. They grew and harvested cotton and corn. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing football and graduated from Lamar High School in 1959. He attended college at Wharton County Junior College. As an adult, George worked as a carpet salesman before joining Fort Bend County Road and Bridge where he oversaw the Herbicide Program and the Sign Department. As an adult, George lived in Rosenberg, Texas where his love of gardening continued. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He cherished playing ball with his great-granddaughters. A fan of old westerns, his favorite was The Lone Ranger. He also loved to cook, his specialty being barbecue and his homemade barbecue sauce. George was preceded in death by his father, Fritz Gragert; his mother, Annie Gragert; and his two older brothers, Walter and Wilbur Gragert.
