Bio

Lawrence Moss, 83, of Mt. Calm, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008, at his residence surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m., Monday, July 7, at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Lawrence and Rev. R. B. McCurdy officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, July 6, at OakCrest Funeral Home. Lawrence was born in Gatesville, Texas, to the late Robert and Elizabeth Moss. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II and saw action in the South Pacific. Lawrence returned to Waco and met LaVerne Guantt. They were married on Jan. 22, 1946. His life revolved around his family. His work career included 32 years with the Waco Independent School District where he retired as a Maintenance Supervisor. He then worked another ten years with ARA Nursing Homes before he truly retired to his farm in Mt. Calm. There, he enjoyed his cows, chickens, ducks and donkeys. Lawrence served his Lord faithfully at Park Memorial Baptist and First Baptist Church of Mt. Calm after he moved there. He served as a Deacon for over 46 years and was honored for his tireless service by his church in 2005 with the title of Deacon Emeritus and a Lawrence Moss Day ceremony. He was preceded in death by seven siblings. Survivors include his wife and helpmate of 62 years, LaVerne; sons, Dwain Moss and wife, Jeanie, of Waco, Jimmy Moss, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Mike Moss, of Mt. Calm; daughter, Connie Guinn and husband, Danny, of Mansfield; grandchildren, Melissa Brown and husband, Randall, of Lorena, Kevin and wife, Candice, of Orlando, Fla., Greg and wife, Ame, of Dallas, Scott and wife, Angie, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Chris, of Orlando, Fla., Mike Jr. and wife, Lindsey, of Waco, Pam Neie and husband, Steve, of Lorena, and Matthew Guinn and Lauren Guinn, of Mansfield; great-grandchildren, Emily, Elizabeth, Madison and Hope; sister, Ruby Lumpkin, of Clifton.; and a host of nieces, nephews; other relatives and many friends.
