Lawrence Eugene "Larry" Sonka, 72, of Hobson, Texas, passed away on May 26, 2008, in Karnes City. Larry was born Oct. 4, 1935, in Dallas to Mary Louise Zaidle and John Sonka. Upon graduating from high school in 1953, Larry worked for a shoe company in Dallas before joining the U.S. Army in 1958. The majority of his professional career was proudly spent employed with SAS Shoes Inc. in San Antonio. His son, Blair R. Sonka, and his parents preceded him in death. Larry leaves behind his beloved wife Cheryl; his sons, Lance and wife Judy of Carver, Minn., and Shanon of Karnes City; his grandchildren, Ashley, Hailey, and Lance Jr. of Carver, Minn., Austin and Alexis of Karnes City, and Cheyenne of Maxwell. Larry also leaves behind his sister, Betty Pippin and husband Bill of Desoto, and their children, Larry Pippin, Tracy Mayrell, and Larry Mayrell. Other family members include Larry's aunt, Adell Valdek, and her children, Benny Valdek and Sally Valdek.
