Bio

Carl Lee Tarpley was the fourth son of Sterling "Lake" Tarpley and Mary Frances (Frank) Shrader Tarpley. He was born in Rock Hill, Collin County, Texas. His father, Lake, was killed by his own gun when the holster that it was in fell off the wall about 1887. His mother, Frank, stayed in Collin County till about 1905, then took her remaining sons to McAlister, Quay County, NM. Lee soon married Margaret Ann Sherrill. They remained in the McAlister/Albuquerque/Tucumcari area. Lee and Margaret had three children, Sherrill "Lake," (b. 1910), Francis Bell (b. 1912), and Virginia Lee (b.1915). Mary Frances (Frank) Tarpley's brother, George Washington (Buck) Shrader later moved into Roswell area and had a grocery store there. He, his wife, and one daughter are buried in that area. Lee's older brothers are: Henry "Clay" Tarpley (buried in Quay Co. NM), George H. Tarpley (b. Feb. 1882; d. Jan 1883 in Frisco, Collin Co. TX), Sterling Francis Tarpley (buried in Waco, McLennen Co. TX), and William Lake Tarpley (buried in Frisco, Collin Co., TX) Margaret also has a memorial here at Find A Grave.
