George N. Christensen, born on August 6, 1932, in Platte County, Nebraska, to Niels and Mildred (Simpson) Christensen. He was baptized and confirmed at Rosenberg Lutheran Church near Lindsey. He attended Looking Glass Country School through the 10th grade. In the late 1940s, the family purchased a farm north of Primrose, Nebraska, where he completed high school and graduated in 1951. After graduation, George worked alongside his father on the farm. In February 1953, he enlisted in the United States Army. During his training, he contracted pneumonia that progressed to rheumatic fever, affecting his heart. Consequently, he was honorably discharged in November 1953. George then worked for Charlie Beckwith on his farm. In 1956, he enrolled in Milford Trade School for two years studying diesel mechanics. On February 6, 1957, he married Margaret Martinsen and he farmed on several farms near Primrose. In 1966, he started work at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition plant in Grand Island and the family moved to Grand Island the following year. When the plant closed, he worked on constructing the Gentleman Power Plant south of Sutherland. Later, he and a friend formed a partnership and did construction work until his retirement. George had a love of cars, especially Fords. Starting with a 1946 Ford that he and his dad bought at an auction. He loved to work on them and hated it when everything became computerized, and he could no longer fix his own cars. From then on, he bought new Fords. Last one was our 2014 Ford Escape. In November 2023, George entered the VA Medical Center, where he made numerous new friends. He found joy in bingo games, visiting with fellow veterans, and many, many hours of putting together puzzles. Country music held a special place in his heart, and the staff and fellow veterans were treated to a steady stream of western songs throughout the past year. We made sure he left this world listening to his favorite, Hank Williams Sr. He was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled Veterans of America. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; children, Cliff (Shelly) Christensen of Grand Island, Craig (Lisa) Christensen of Blacksburg, South Carolina; Stacy (Chris) Brauns of DelRay Beach, Florida; Sheila (Dave) Mueller of Jupiter, Florida; grandchildren, Brandy (Brandon) Kinnison, Brittany Christensen, Kelsey Christensen, Burke Christensen, Zach (Amanda) Christensen, Gabby (Tyler) Hellbusch, Abbie Mueller, Bella (Nata) Hemmer, Annabelle Mueller and Anders Mueller; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Helen (Laddie) Socha and Emily (Al) Bloebaum, and (Ed) Eisenmann.
