Bio

Helen Eulalia Socha, 82 years, of Fremont, NE, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 at her home in Fremont. She was born February 7, 1930 in Lindsey, NE to Niels and Mildred (Simpson) Christensen. She was baptized at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church near Lindsey on March 22, 1931 and was confirmed in her faith at Saint Ansgar Evangelical Lutheran Church near Rosenberg in the spring of 1944. Helen attended school at District 40 near Lindsey until the 10th grade. In 1948 she graduated from Newman Grove High School. That same year she moved to Primrose with her parents and worked at Casey's Inn Cafe. It was here where she met Laddie. On April 10, 1950 Helen and Laddie were married in Albion, NE. To this union four children were born: Pamela, Jacqueline, Keith and Darryl. Helen and Laddie raised their family in many towns in Nebraska including: Primrose, Creighton, Norfolk, Broken Bow and Hastings. Settling in Norfolk, Helen became a member of Saint John's Lutheran Church. For 16 years she worked at Land O Lakes, retiring in 1992. Helen and Laddie spent their retirement traveling south in the winter to Arizona and Texas. Helen enjoyed, camping, fishing, baking pies and rolls and particularly gardening. She would spend countless hours designing flower gardens that featured a variety of flowers. She was especially proud of her roses. After 44 years in Norfolk, Helen and Laddie moved to Fremont in March 2006 where they attend Salem Lutheran Church. Helen was a loyal wife, a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will always be loved, missed and never forgotten. Survivors include: husband Laddie; sons - Keith Socha of Lincoln, NE and Darryl and wife Kimberly Socha of Allen Hurst, GA; daughters - Jackie Day of Elkhorn, NE and Pam Case of LaVista, NE; brother - George and wife Margaret Ann Christensen of Grand Island, NE; sisters - Emily and husband Ed Eisenmann of Bellevue, NE and Margaret Langan of Grand Island, NE; numerous nieces and nephews; 11 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; and son-in-law - Ken Day. Funeral Service will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday Feb.2, 2013 at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont, NE. The Rev. Michael Thomas will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-8 P.M. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
