Brand will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Interment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege. Ardella May Brand, 87 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. She was born August 9, 1937, on her family's homestead southwest of Elwood, Gosper County, Nebraska, the fifth of ten children born to Cornelius and Ida (Schutz) Pfeiffer. Ardella attended, was confirmed, and was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church southwest of Elwood near the family farmstead east of Stockville in Gosper County. Her parents donated land just west of the homestead for the church and cemetery. She attended elementary school at Salem Lutheran and high school at Elwood High School. When the kids were small, Ardella's parents used to speak German to each other when they didn't want the kids to know what they were saying. Ardella met her future husband Duane at a roller skating event at the Holdrege City Auditorium. They were married on August 17, 1958, at the Salem Lutheran Church near the family home. One year later they were blessed with the birth of their first son, Roy. In the spring of 1960, they moved northeast of Oxford to a farm and began farming and were blessed again with the birth of their daughter, Brenda, and son Ronald. After five years, they bought their farm south of Oxford. When the kids were younger, she sewed quite a bit and played an active part in summer Bible School. She thought it very important that her kids learn to swim and drove them to swim classes every summer. Christmas baking and pumpkin carving with the kids and then grandchildren was a yearly event, as well as decorating for the holidays. She had many seasonal decorations for each holiday. As Duane farmed for so many years, Ardella would cook and prepare large meals for the family and hired hands, and if the guys were too far out to come to the house to eat, she would pack it and the kids all up and head out to feed them. She would also have family get-togethers for the kids' birthdays and various holidays. She started selling Avon in Oxford and then again after moving to Holdrege, meeting and enjoying the company of many people. Ardella learned about running a business as she kept the books for the farm and then her Avon sales. She also worked at Wheeler's in Holdrege for several years. She also enjoyed crosswords, word finds, going to garage sales and auctions with Duane, and having garage sales with the auction finds. While living in Oxford, Ardella and Duane were members of the Baptist Church and after moving to Holdrege, they moved their membership to the Baptist Church in Holdrege where Ardella was Baptized in 1989. She had a stroke in 2014, which left her left side disabled. Duane was able to take care of her for four years at home before he himself had a stroke and could no longer take care of her. At that time in 2018, they both took up residence at Holdrege Memorial Homes. Left behind to cherish her memory are her children: Roy (Donna) Brand of Minden, Nebraska; Brenda (Randy) Barnes of Holdrege; Ron (Kristy) Brand of Holdrege; grandchildren: Michelle (Zachary) Schultz; Sara Barnes (fiancé Ethan Malcolm); Jaiden Brand; and Julieanna Wemhoff (and Family); sister, Dorothea (Lamoyne) Niemeier; brothers: Dale (Pat) Pfeiffer; and Lloyd Pfeiffer; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Marlys Brand; and an infinite host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preeded in death by her husband; her parents; twin sisters who passed at birth, Florence and Mary; brothers: Lyle Pfeiffer; and Alvin Pfeiffer; sisters: Dolores Oelkers; and Elaine Farr; brothers-in-law: Floyd Farr; and Arthur Oelkers; sisters-in-law: Lois Pfeiffer; Bonnie (Wendland) Pfeiffer; Isabelle Pfeiffer; Erma Pfeiffer; nieces: Christy Niemeier and Shelli Farr; and nephew, Dwight Pfeiffer. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 26, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
