Mass of Christian Burial for Joyce Schlickbernd age 85 of Beemer, NE will be on Monday, October 28, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer, NE, with a luncheon to follow at the Beemer American Legion Hall. Private family interment will be on Tuesday, October 29th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with a Vigil Service and Rosary at 6:00 p.m. and will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. The service will be live-streamed at www.facebook.com/minnickfuneralserviceinc . In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for future designation in Joyce's name. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point is assisting the family with the arrangements. Joyce passed away with her husband and children by her side on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer, NE. Joyce Doerneman Schlickbernd was born on September 18, 1939 one mile north of Aloys, NE to Theodore, Jr. and Amelia (Schlautman) Doerneman. She attended St. Aloysious grade school for four years. In 1949, the family moved to Howells, where Joyce attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School and graduated from Howells High School in 1957. She attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Omaha, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1960. On September 16, 1961, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Schlickbernd. After marriage, she worked as a registered nurse at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point, NE. Once their family began to grow, she decided to stay home and raise the family while also supporting her husband Kenneth, and was co-owner of the Beemer Gambles Store which later was called Our Own Hardware. Joyce also worked part-time at Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer when it first opened in 1972 as a registered nurse until full-time help could be hired. Joyce was very involved in the community and volunteered her time frequently. She was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church teaching CCD classes, was involved with the Altar Society and church choir. Joyce was a voting poll assistant for Cuming County, served as a Girl Scout leader, was involved with the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life since she was a breast cancer survivor, served on the school board for Beemer Public School, was a co-founder of the Beemer Community Foundation, and had served on the Cuming County Red Cross Board. Joyce was a loving, caring and thoughtful person who raised her family to work hard, be responsible and respect others. Survivors include- Husband-Kenneth Schlickbernd of Beemer, NE Children and their families- Daughter-Susan and John Floerchinger of Council Bluffs, IA and family- Ryan Willis, Kyle Willis, Megan and Nick Colvin and son Reid, and Kelsey Floerchinger Son-Gerald Schlickbernd of Beemer, NE Daughter-Carol and John Betzelberger of Omaha, NE and family- Erin and Joe Gulizia and children-Oliver and Forest, A.J. Betzelberger, and Sara and James Middleton and son-Scotty Son-Dean and Brenda Schlickbernd of Brooklyn Park, MN and family- Jenna Schlickbernd, Owen Schlickbernd, and Leah Schlickbernd Daughter-Ann and Mike Miller of Axtell, NE and family- Jordan and Quinton Harley and children-Quinton Jr. and Jayda, Garrett Miller, Regan and Maddy Norrie, and Cooper Miller Son-Alan and Stacy Schlickbernd of Beemer, NE and son- Brody Schlickbernd Son-Jason and Melissa Schlickbernd of Runnells, IA and family- Will Schlickbernd and Allie Schlickbernd Joyce was preceded in death by her parents-Theodore and Amelia Doerneman, Jr., and brothers-Marvin Doerneman, Wilbur Doerneman, Howard Doerneman, and Reuben Doerneman.
