Bio

David John Szafrajda,86, passed away on October 1st in Caldwell Idaho. David was the husband of Doris Szafrajda, they were married for 43 years. David was born on March 30, 1938 in Rockville Nebraska. He was the oldest of three children born to Clemens and Barbara (Szafrajda) Hurlbert. He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1956. He was drafted into the Army and worked in the National Guard until he was honorably discharged. As a civilian he worked at a variety of places including Rohr Industries, Simplot, and Zilog for many years before retiring. David was a very spiritual person with a deep rooted faith. He enjoyed visits from the Chaplain, listening to scripture, singing hymns, and much prayer. He was an avid gardener, always enjoying watching things grow. He loved all animals, spending time outdoors, camping, road trips and puttering around doing whatever needed to be done. David was a hobby mechanic; tinkering, fixing, and keeping his and his families' vehicles in top shape. His collection of tools was impressive, to say the least! In recent years, he most enjoyed spending time with family and giving his care givers a hard time with his stubborn and loving nature. Watching his grandkids grow up was a source of great joy for him, especially getting everyone together to eat pizza. Another source of joy was his food. He indulged in chocolate, ice cream, Dr. Pepper, Pepsi and any other dessert he could find. He is survived by Doris Szafrajda, four daughters, Tami (Stephen) Davis, Lori (Thad) Petersen, Wendy (Erin) Danzer and Amanda (Tim) Kasprzak, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and his sister Phylis Hurlbert. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 25, 2024 at the State of Idaho Veterans Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.
