Bio

Clemens J. Szafrajda, Jr., 74, of Mason City, Neb., passed away April 24, 2018, at his home in Mason City. Funeral services were Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. with a Rosary at 9:30 a.m. before services at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow with Father Matt Koperski officiating. Burial was in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Rockville at 2:30 p.m. Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of the arrangements. Clem was born Oct 13, 1943 to Clemens Sr and Barbara (Kuffel) Szafrajda in Litchfield. He was the youngest of three children. He attended grade school in Shelton, Grand Island, Kent, and Ravenna. He graduated high school from Loup County High School in Taylor. He worked construction for many years and then later worked for the Custer County Fairgrounds for approximately 17 years. He retired in 2008 from the Fairgrounds. Many people knew him as Jr. or Clem "Cadiddlehopper." He never met a stranger and loved to talk with anyone and everyone. He loved to fish and hunt small game. He enjoyed taking his nephew and nieces hunting when they were younger. He always loved a good auction. Clem enjoyed going to sporting events, especially those that his nieces and nephews participated in, which were many. He especially enjoyed Sunday dinner with his sister every week. He will be missed for his daily drivebys and annoying "arguments." Clem is survived by brother David Szafrajda of Nampa, Idaho; sister Phylis Hurlbert of Broken Bow; six nieces Tami (Stephen) Davis of Tennessee, Lori (Thad) Peterson, Wendy (Erin) Danzer and Mandy (Tim) Kasprzak all of Idaho, and Monica (Frosty) Linn and Kathy (Pete) Miller of Broken Bow; one nephew Marion (Jackie) Hurlbert of Salt Lake City; and numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews.
