SOURCE: 2008 self-published book "McGill Chronicle" by Patricia Ann "Patty" McGill Barley (1936-2011). pp 74-75 have Patty's research on Matilda "Tillie" McGill. From the pages Patty writes: "By the 1900 US Census, Nip is shown as a widower with three young daughters. The last record we have of Matilda is the birth of her third daughter, Josie, in 1884. It is a probability that Matilda died during or after the birth of her last child, but that fact is not documented except for the family lore as told to Donna McDowell Scott [(1958-2019). Donna was also a researcher.] Per Donna: 'I have been told that Matilda died during childbirth, but I have not been able to locate a date of death.' Donna continues, I have not been able to locate Matilda McGill McDowell's grave, but my dad remembers being told that she was buried in an unmarked grave, under an oak tree in the Bryars-McGill Cemetery.' Nip lived until 1939 and never remarried."
