MARSHALL - Funeral services for James Henry Smith, 80, will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 2, 2008, at the chapel of Downs Funeral Home in Marshall, with the Rev. Craig Evers and the Rev. Tony Pierce officiating. Internment will follow in Piney Cemetery in Harleton under the direction of Downs Funeral Home. Mr. Smith went to be with the Lord Friday, May 30, 2008. Mr. Smith was born September 14, 1927, in Harleton, to Chesley Foster Smith Sr. and Etta Florence Oney Smith, deceased. He attended Athey and Harleton schools. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and was a lifelong resident of Harleton. He was a U.S. Army veteran, devoted son, husband, father and grandfather, and an avid fan of the Harleton Wildcats. He was employed by AMF Baird in Shreveport until his retirement in 1987 and then worked for Harleton ISD as groundskeeper. He loved meeting, chatting and chewing with the group at Harleton Café. Mr. Smith is survived by his children, Judy Cogswell of Longview, David and Carol Smith of League City, Wanda and Eric Seivley of Harleton, Jo and Randall Clowers of Longview, Louis and Nita Smith of Rogersville, Tennessee; son-in-law, Ray Wilson of Harleton; grandchildren, Rhonda and Robert Hesselink of Galveston, Jason and Amber Smith of League City, Jimmy Cogswell of Elysian Fields, La Wanda Jo Cogswell of Longview, Terri and Rich Eubanks, Charlotte and Scott Hoing and Kevin Ray of Harleton, Michael and Debbra Clowers, Keith and Stephanie Clowers, all of McKinney, Tracy and Cary Redman of Longview, Rachel and Cliff Jones and Heather Smith of Rogersville, Tennessee, Carmelita and Timmy Stanley of Harleton, and Garrett and Rebecca Wilson of Harleton; brother, C.F. Smith Jr. of Longview; 22 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Verna Mae Owens and Ilarie Wheeler; wife, Cuba Lee Smith; and daughter, Lois Faye Smith Wilson. Pallbearers will be Michael Clowers, Keith Clowers, Kevin Ray, Garrett Wilson, Scott Hoing and Rich Eubanks.
