DAINGERFIELD - Services for Jeffie Reese Chatham, 93, of Daingerfield, will be 2 p.m. today, May 19, 2008, at Bradfield Chapel Methodist Church, with Bro. Norman Miller officiating. Burial will be in Bradfield Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements are by Nail-Haggard Funeral Home. Mr. Chatham died May 18, 2008, in Daingerfield. Born April 4, 1915, in Jefferson, he retired from the U.S. Army after 26 years and was a Methodist. Survivors include his wife, Myran E. Chatham; and son, Monroe E. Chatham. Military Service: He enlisted as a Private in Battery D, 1st Field Artillery Regiment, US Army in 1938 and was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. By 5 August 1942 during World War Two he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. He reenlisted on 17 November 1945 and he transferred from Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri to serve in the Army Hawaiian Department. He served in the Korean War and was stationed with occupation forces forces from October 1946 to September 1947 during "Operation Blacklist Forty" then was briefly stationed at Fort Bliss. In November 1949 he was sent back to Korea the Korean Military Advisory Group (K-MAG) to train the South Korean Army. He was sent home August 1951 and was stationed with the First Armored Division. He then became an Army recruiter in Baytown, Texas. He was discharged on 22 December 1953 then reenlisted on 4 February 1954. He retired from the Army on 31 August 1960. He served a total of 22 years. He was eligible for at least the American Defense Service Medal, World War Two Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Korean Service medal.
