Area Addie E. Knight was born to Thomas Jefferson Knight (1827-1892) and Martha Ann Sanders (1832-1880) and married first Lenard G. Gear 29 Jun 1881 in Upshur Co., Tx. and had 2 children, Arie P. Gear (1882 – 1917) and Jeff L. Gear (1884 – 1885). After Mr. Gear's death in 1883 she married the widower of her sister, Mirah, Whitfield A. Wade (1847-1928) also in Upshur Co., and they had an additional 7 children. She was a beloved mother and grandmother and a hearty woman. Once on her Rosewood home she heard a ruckus outside and found a huge snake had entered into her chicken house and part of the snake was hanging out a hole in the house and she dragged it out through the hole and disposed of it with an ax. Her father named her at birth for an old Indian lady who saved his life when he was near death on his way home at the end of the Civil War. Her full name was Eary Airy Area Edro Entrest Ann Gear Knight Wade but she was known simply as "Aunt Addie."
