Mary Williams Obituary It is with great sadness the family of Mary Ellen Williams announces her passing at Kaiser Hospital in Vacaville, Calif., Nov. 4, 2017. Mary was born Jan. 23, 1934 on her parents' farm near Ansley in Custer County, Nebraska. She was the third child of the late Georgia Hollenbeck and Douglas Mills Jr. Mary grew up in Ansley and attended local schools. Mary married her first husband Ed Fries and they had four children: Carol, Karen, Eddie and Linda. In 1959 Mary met and married the love of her life, Lyle "Gus" Williams. Gus and Mary moved to California and raised three children, Lee, Dan and Ken. Mary and Gus celebrated 58 years of marriage. Mary had many hobbies, loving to cook and garden at home. She also enjoyed sewing and embroidery and relished sharing her handy work with her appreciative family. For 30 years, Mary served as a 4-H Leader for the Montezuma Hills 4-H Club in Birds Landing. Always one to volunteer, Mary was the fifteen-year Chairperson for the Sacramento Blood Center Blood Drive. A charter member of the Rio Vista Women of the Moose, Mary held many leadership positions including, serving as the first recorder, Senior Regent, Past Regent and Application Review Chairperson. Mary enjoyed the fellowship and many dear friendships she made. Mary was a wonderful, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. Her home was a welcome haven for family, friends, and neighbors. She touched many lives and will be sorely missed. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brothers George and Bill Mills; sister Linda Mills; son Eddie Fries and infant twin sons, Harlyn and Harry Williams; and parents-in-law Harry & Bonnie Williams. Mary is survived by her husband, Lyle "Gus" Williams of Rio Vista, Calif.; daughters Carol (Ed) Thamer, Karen (Ray) Hunt, and Linda (Jerald) Ward all of Nebraska; sons Lee (Paula) Williams, Ken (Jeannette) Williams of Rio Vista and Dan (Valerie) Williams of Vacaville; grandchildren Rowdy, Quirt, Dallas, Rebel and Cocha Hunt, Allen Thamer, Jeremy and Shawn Ward, Chad Hunt and Janie Myers all of Nebraska; grandchildren Jessica Williams, Megan Shelby, Ashley Williams and Kristel Valmonte all of California; brothers Gordon "Curly" (LuWana) Mills, Tom (Joyce) Mills and John (Judy) Mills; sisters Edna (Jim) Ferguson and Julie (Bixby) Teeters; sister-in-law Joyce Mills; as well as twenty-nine great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of Mary's life was held Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. at Rio Vista Moose Lodge, 11 N Front St., Rio Vista.
