The Scio Tribune February 24, 1938 Joe Dostal Funeral Thursday Afternoon Funeral services for Joe Dostal, 50, who died at his home here Saturday night from a heart attack are to be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at ZCBJ hall in this city, under the auspices of the Sokol lodge, of which deceased was a member. Burial will be at Franklin Butte cemetery near Scio. Joseph Dostal was born in Czechoslovakia November 20, 1887, and came to the United States in 1906. He followed farming near Colon, Nebraska, for several years. On June 23 1914, he was married to Frances Balvin. to this union two daughters, Emma and Agnes, and one son, Joseph Edward were born and survive their father. From Nebraska the family went to Gregory, South Dakota, for a few years, arriving in the Scio community in 1932. Mrs. Dostal died here July 4, 1933. On May 14, 1936, Mr. Dostal married Mrs. Emilie Urban of Idaho, who survives him. A sister of the deceased, Mrs Fannie Teply, resides in her native Czechoslovakia. Mrs. Mary Veskrna, another sister lives in Dallas, South Dakota, as does his mother, Mrs. Anna Dostal. a Broterh Gus Dostal lives in Gregory South Dakota, and another brother Emil Dostal resides at Wahoo, Neb. He was a winner by trade and also did pluming work. His shop was on Water Street in South Scio.
