Bio
Velma Lee Underdown Davis , age 92, lifelong resident of McMinn County, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024. She was a member of South Liberty Baptist Church. Velma enjoyed listening to gospel music, being outdoors, gardening, and farming. Having grown up in the South Liberty community, she was the daughter of the late Charles Wilburn "Billie" and Alice Maude Crabtree Underdown. She is further preceded by her husband of 45 years: Charles Davis, a son: Billy Ross Davis, a daughter: Tammie Woodby, sisters: Betty Underdown, Hazel Underdown, and Edna Haney, and brothers: Charles Underdown, Jr, Steven Underdown, and Jesse Underdown. Velma is survived by her sons: Larry Davis and Charles Davis (Gina), 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, a sister: Alice West (Bill), and a brother: Creed Luther (C.L.) Underdown, along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Ziegler Funeral Home . Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow directly after funeral services at South Liberty Cemetery in Athens. Velma's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
