Betty F. (Hay) Brownfield, age 77, passed quietly from this life on Sept. 29, 2023, secure in the knowledge of a joyful reunion with her beloved husband, Coy and Savior Jesus Christ. Born Nov. 18, 1945 in Madill, Okla., to Leonard and Francis (McHargue) Hay, she grew up in Hugo and was a lifelong alumni of Hugo Schools, graduating from Hugo High School in 1963. After marrying Coy Brownfield in June 1963, they moved to Oklahoma City to begin their new life together. Betty raised her children and continued to work through the years while going to college to earn a Masters in Elementary Education. Betty was an exceptional teacher and received many honors throughout her career, influencing thousands of students, parents and co-workers along the way. Betty was a faithful Christian and member of the Church of Christ, living her life as an example of a Godly wife and mother. Betty was preceded in death by her husband; her parents and her siblings: Ernest, Tommy and Raymond Hay, Lynda (Hay) Wilkie and Troy Chumley; sisters- and brothers-in-law: Jane and Jacque Hay, David L. Wilkie, Billie Taylor, Everett, Cecil and Floyd Brownfield. Survivors include: daughter, Becky (Jim) Maddox; son, Steve (Melanie) Brownfield; grandchildren: Jared Maddox, Joe (Cynthia) Maddox, Lizzy (Erick) Villarreal, Victoria Maddox, Alec, Atticus and Jeremiah Brownfield and great-grandchildren: Layla Maddox and Damien Villarreal. Other survivors include a sister, Elsie Sheppard; brother-in-law, Punchie Brownfield; sisters-in-law: Geneva Taylor and Cleda Brownfield, Debbie Brownfield, Betty L. Brownfield and Phyllis Hay, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Funeral services were Oct. 6, 2023 at Watts Memorial Chapel, Madill, Okla., with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Madill.
