John Luther Hawk, Jr., 97, of Clyde passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023, in an Abilene medical center. Graveside services with military honors were held at Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. John was born April 27, 1926, in Paducah to John Luther Hawk, Sr. and Cynthia Ida (Walkup) Hawk. He attended schools in Clyde. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years, training Russian sailors to operate amphibian naval craft. He worked as a salesman for Kirby Vacuum Cleaners for over 20 years and Hawk Portable Buildings for over 40 years. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He is survived by three sons, John Luther (Endgate) Hawk, III, Johnny Hawk Vandiver and Phillip Lee Hawk May; six daughters, Cynthia Ann Bell, Carolyn Sue Burns, Cherri Layne Glosson, Candia Lynn Hallford, Charla Jean Wauson and Cristal Vale Roth; 29 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill Hawk and two sisters, Tommye Amanda Mitchell and Christine Tippy Deardorff.
