Raymond J. Matus, 79, of West, passed away late Saturday evening, April 12, 2008, at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with the Rev. Anthony Odiong as celebrant. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Raymond was the son of Louis and Lillie (Kohut) Matus. He attended Tokio School and West High School and on May 22, 1950, he was united in marriage to Rosalie Marak in West. Then on May 24, 1997, he was united in marriage to Margaret "Marge" Skopik Wright in West. Raymond was the manager for HEB for 18 years, owner of Community Grocery in West for over 20 years, and owner of Cen-Tex Seed and Delinting before retiring in 1992. He loved the outdoors and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed traveling in his motor home and gambling. Raymond was a member of KJT #31 and St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was preceded in death by his first wife on Oct. 24, 1993; his parents; and a step-son, Michael Wright. He is survived by his wife, Marge Matus, of West; sons, Richard Matus and Steve Matus, both of West; daughter, Rose Ann Morris and husband, Eddie, of West; step-sons, Terry Wright and wife, Jill and Steve Wright and wife, Cindy, all of Spring, and Pat Wright and wife, Jennifer, of West; step-daughters, Debbie Pavlicek and husband, James and Michelle Wolf and husband, Rick, all of West, and Patty Harkins, of Mansfield; 26 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and other relatives, and friends. Active pallbearers are Matthew Matus, Keaton Matus, Eddie Morris Jr., Jonathan Morris, Chris Pavlicek, Matt Pavlicek and PeeWee Zahirniak. Honorary pallbearers are the Ole Czech Bakery morning and afternoon coffee group. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Congestive Heart Failure Clinic or West Rest Haven Memorial Fund. WT: 4/14/2008
