Huge Throng Pays Tribute to Aug. Boelter at Rites Tuesday Afternoon. Verdigre Eagle Thursday, September 3, 1953 One of the largest gatherings at a funeral in Verdigre in a decade was present Tuesday afternoon to pay final respects to Aug. Boelter, Knox county supervisor for 13 years, who died Saturday. He was 76 years of age. The rites were held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church at two o'clock, Rev. Richard E. Baldwin, pastor, officiated. The gospel reading was the psalm, "the Lord is my Shepherd" and the funeral sermon was taken from the book of Hebrews, chap 27 and 28, "It is appointed for man to die." Mrs. Richard E. Baldwin and two daughters sang three hymns and Mrs. Edwin Uhlir played the accompaniment at the organ. There was a profusion of floral tributes and they were beautiful at the front of the church. Ladies in charge of the floral wreathes were: Mrs. Henry Prokop, Mrs. James L. Mott, Mrs. George Mott, Mrs. Irvin Sonder and Mrs. Dave Alder. Honary pallbearers were the county board of supervisors and county officials: John D. Forsyth, Earl Cross, F.E. Pierce, L. J. Kocina, J.F. Noeker, Alva Hul, Erik Rilsness, Edwin J. Lenger and Z.N. Dewey. Active pallbeareres were Joe J. Jelinek, James A. Mott, Fritz Rokahr, Hans Bohren, Chris Kruse, and T. E. Tikalsky. Interment took place in Grimton cemetery near Venus. Relatives were here for the funeral from these places; Walnut, Venus, Niobrara, Bloomfield, Star, Middlebranch, Creighton, Page, Dorsey, Plainview, Spencer, Laurel, Norfolk, Sidney and Lodgepole. Obituary: August Friedrich E. Boelter the son of John and Ernestine Boelter was born August 8, 1877 at Frienwalde, Germany. He came to Knox county with his parents at the age of seven years. He lived the rest of his life in this county. He died Saturday, August 29 at about five p.m. at the age of 76 years and 21 days. He was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran church at Walnut on June 4, 1921. On April 8, 1902 August Boelter was united in holy matrimony to Miss Bertha Block at Creighton. To this union four children were born all of whom were present at the time of death of their father. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife; one son Carl of Verdigre; three daughters, Mrs. (Agnes) Miller of Middlebranch, Mrs. (Wilma) Busskohl of Norfolk and Mrs. (Gladys) Tikalsky of Walnut. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Anna McElhose and Mrs. Martha Effle of Creighton; one brother Carl Boelter of Walnut; and many other relatives and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Mr. Boelter was engaged in farming in the Walnut community until 1925, when he moved to Verdigre. Here he was employed by the Verdigre Cooperative Association for 14 years. He resigned this position to become Knox county supervisor and he represented the Fourth District for 13 years. He served the Farmers Union Insurance company for 27 years. Mr. and Mrs. August Boelter celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on April 9, 1952.
