Leland Douglas Waters, 67, of Ocala, FL passed away June 19, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. Leland was born on July 19th, 1955 to Dorothy Marie (Faxon) Waters and Henry Jackson Waters in Gainesville, FL. Along with his two older sisters, Suzanne and Frances, the family moved to Tallahassee when Doug was 11, where he finished grade school. He later attended FSU, earning a degree in Education. He met the love of his life, Melanie Smith at age 15. They married in 1976 and moved to Ocala in 1979. They have three children, Jessica Dawn, Jason Douglas and Katherine Dee (Katie). Doug was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and mentor. He was often called upon for advice and counsel. He retired from the construction industry after 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and traveling to the beach and the mountains of Vermont. He had many hobbies but especially enjoyed cooking and barbecuing for his family, playing music and following sports and politics. He was a lifetime member of the Mayflower Society in the Edward Winslow colony. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister Fran Spohn. He is survived by his wife Melanie, daughter Jessica Turley (Jeff), Son Jason Waters (Sally), daughter Katie Merritt (Gideon) his beloved grandchildren Lance, Avie, Colby, and Ellie Turley, Henry, Eliza, and Maverick Waters, and Ainsley Merritt, sister Suzanne Adams, along with many nieces and nephews.
