Bio

Born January 19, 1926, to Velma Grace Strong and Earl Marsh Devey in Alpine Utah. Died October 6, 2022, at the age of 96. Wally grew up with his three brothers and two sisters. Ranald, Don, Davis J., Marilyn (Turner) and Afton (Burgess). It was a much simpler time back then tending to the fields of crops, apple orchards and farm animals. At an early age Wally discovered hunting and shooting and was never far from a loaded gun until grampa hid it in his grandmother's barn but he found it not long after and was allowed to keep it with a promise he be a bit more responsible. Wally also served in the Army Air Corps and was trained to be a gunner on B-17's and B-29's. He spent a lot of time in Las Vegas at the air base and they would fly over Vegas in mock firing runs. After the war he served on an LDS mission to Australia and ended up playing more basketball than anything else. Before he had left on his mission, he met our mother, Janiel Marylin Fox, at a dance in Lehi and that was it for the both of them. They knew that they were right for each other and married when he returned from his mission on September 24, 1949. Wally then joined the Utah National Guard where he gained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 and worked in Headquarters up on Sunnyside Avenue by the University finishing with 35 years of military service. Wally and Janiel then started a family and ended up moving from Granger to Murray where he would live the rest of his life. His four children are David Wallace Devey, Denis Steven Devey, Dana Lyn Gritton and Jill Bezzant. Wally will be laid to rest with the love of his life in the Murray City Cemetery. Together again at last! Many thanks for all the loving care provided by many Visiting Angels over the last year and half, but especially to Nancy and Elle and to the Elevation hospice team, Sara and Reye. Thanks for all their gentle hands and sweet soothing voices that Wally came to love. Services: Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 11:00 am with a viewing prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 am at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, located at 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah.
