Bio

Evelyn passed away on January 29, 2023, in Port St. Lucie, FL. A service was held at Page-Theus Funeral Home in the Chapel located in Leesburg, FL, on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 10 am. Interment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Gregory, SD. Evelyn was born August 21, 1927, to Frank and Kate (Dobesh) Shavlik in Gregory, SD. She attended grade school at a local country school, walking or riding her horse to school. She graduated from Gregory High School, May 1945. By the first week of June 1945, she and four classmates were in Washington, DC, working for the Department of Defense. Evelyn was assigned to work for the U.S. Marine Corp. On November 7, 1948, Evelyn was united in marriage to William J. Greene, who at the time was in the U.S. Marine Corp. To this union, four children were born: Deborah Lynn (Ahdoot), Kim Anthony, William John Jr., and Matthew Joseph. She continued to work for the Marine Corps for a total of over 33 years; attaining the grade of GM13. On the 26th of May 1988, a retirement ceremony was held at Headquarters, USMC, Washington DC, with General A.M. Gray, Commandant, USMC, officiating. After a 3-week tour of Europe, Evelyn began working for the American Student Travel Co, Arlington, VA, and subsequently other tour companies, for the next 14 years. In May of 2003, Evelyn moved from Springfield, VA, to Leesburg, FL, where she continued to enjoy family and friends. She belonged to three card clubs, two boat clubs and the Newcomers' club. She loved to travel and did so extensively in Europe, Asia, Australia and all 50 states to name a few. Her greatest love and joy were her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Steve, Archie and Frank (Joey) and his wife Agnes, sister Darlene and husband Harry (Bob) Greer of Omaha, NE. She is survived by her daughter Deborah L Ahdoot of Alexandria, VA, sons: Kim Anthony (wife Amy) of Lakewood Ranch, FL, William John of Stewart, FL, and Matthew J. (wife Victoria) of Port St. Lucie, FL; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
