According to US WWII Army Enlistment Records, he enlisted 10 Jul 1944 in Dallas, TX. He married Letha Mae Nelson 16 Jun 1947. They had at least eight children: Roger Dale (born in Hill Co, TX); Bobby Dean; Garry Len; Jerry Wayne; Larry Gene; Michael Ray; Shirley Ann; and Terry Joe (all seven born in Dallas Co, TX). He and Letha divorced 14 Jul 1987. He married Arlene Edwards 3 May 1988 in Dallas Co, TX.
