Bio

Fred T. "Thel" Howard, 99, passed away November 27, 2006 in an Alice nursing home. Mr. Howard was born March 3, 1907 in Joshua, Texas to Bobby Lee and Nina Coleta Howard. When he was 18 years old, he moved with his family to a farm near Lamesa, Texas. As a young man, he had his first experience working in the oil filed when he went to Crane Country to work building oil pipelines and storage tanks. He married Pearl Cavender in December of 1928 in Lamesa, Texas. They farmed near Lamesa until 1932 when they moved to a farm near Agua Dulce. Later he returned to the oil field working as a driller or tool pusher, in his heart he was always a farmer. His other great love was fishing.Mr. Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, Pearl Howard, his parents, four brothers and five sisters.Survivors include two sons, Clarence Howard and wife Johnye of Alice, Texas and Wayland Howard and wife Brenda of Keller, Texas; six grandchildren: Mary Clare Howard, Patricia Lynn Wilkins, Cheryl (Jay) Goin, John Alan (Jetta) Howard, Terry Lee Howard and Jeffrey (Julie) Howard; seven grandchildren: Marissa Wilkins, Kelsey Wilkins, Natalie Goin, Kelsey Goin, Bayleigh Howard, Travis Wilkins and Benjamin Howard.Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday November 30, 2006 and December 1, 2006 at Holmgreen Mortuary.
