Mrs. Emfinger was born in LaMesa, Texas, on Jan. 8, 1915. She was the next youngest of 13 children. She passed away at her home Tuesday evening following a lengthy illness. She spent her early years in LaMesa, graduating from LaMesa High School where she was a star basketball player. Following high school, she graduated from the Drona Business College in Lubbock, Texas. She came to Bakersfield on a visit in 1934 and there she met her future husband, Charlie E. Emfinger. They were married in Bakersfield on Aug. 23, 1935. They made their home on the West Side ever since. She retired as a public weighmaster for the Valley Road Siding and Curbing Service in Cuyama. Mrs. Emfinger was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Taft and a 62 year member of the Modern Woodmen of America. Her survivors include her husband Charlie E. Emfinger; four sons Charlie Edwin Emfinger, Boyd Emfinger, Joe Emfinger, and Jerry Emfinger; a daughter Charlene Armstrong; a sister Joycie Blevins; a brother Thel Howard; 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
