Duncan Banner, The (OK) - Wednesday, March 1, 2023 Thomas Michael Grooms, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away February 1, 2023 in Wichita Falls, TX. He was born August 18th, 1952 in Duncan, OK to Thomas Morton and Novaleen (Darter) Grooms. A "Celebration of Life" for Mike will be held Sunday, March 12th at Fair Baptist Church Life Center, 3535 Empire Rd., Duncan, OK at 2:00. p.m. Mike graduated from Empire High School in 1970 and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Duncan, OK. He joined the U. S. Air Force in 1976 where he served for four years, before being honorably discharged. He then came back to Duncan to work in the family business, Grooms' Floor Covering. He worked at Grooms' for several years, then ventured out on his own and eventually opened "Mike Grooms' Floor Covering" in Lawton, OK. In 1992, Mike bought a building on Lee Blvd and moved his business there, renaming it J&J, after his children, Joshua and Jordan. He extended the business in 1994, moved J&J into a new location and changed the current locations name to E&M Distributors, where it has remained since that time. Mike was a dedicated businessman and father. His work was more than just a job or a way to support his growing family: he truly loved it. He loved the challenges, his family of employees, the salesmen he met and worked with along the way, and, of course, the many customers who supported him through the years. He will be missed. Mike was preceded in death by his son Joshua Thomas and parents, Tom and Novaleen (Darter) Grooms. Mike is survived by his daughter, Jordan Grooms of Duncan, OK, wife Mei Ling, and children Erin, Joy, Julie, and Thomas, all of Lawton; his brothers Randy Grooms of Duncan, Rodney Grooms of Duncan, Rodney's wife Carla and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and friends. He is also survived by his faithful employees, who have been an extended family to him for many years, including Jody Jackson, and Li'l Jim Robinson. The family thanks all of these people for their love and support of Mike.
