Duncan Banner, Fri., Dec. 8, 2006 NOVALEEN DARTER GROOMS, 75, of Duncan, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2006, in Duncan. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in New Hope Baptist Church West, with the Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Interment will be in Duncan City Cemetery under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. Novaleen was born Jan. 22, 1931, in Duncan, to Matilda Jane Morris and Ancil Darter. She graduated from Duncan High School in 1949 and attended the University of Oklahoma. She married Thomas Martin Grooms on Nov. 22, 1951, in Immanuel Baptist Church in Duncan. Novaleen and Tom were co-owners of Grooms Floor Covering. In 1955, they expanded the scope of the family business to include retail work. Novaleen's attention to her customers' needs made her a prominent and well-liked businesswoman in the Duncan community for over 40 years. Novaleen was a member of New Hope Baptist Church West and was active by teaching Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed singing in the choir, playing the piano and watching her grandchildren and great-granddaughters play. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Tom of the home; three sons and their wives, Mike and Elizabeth Grooms, Randy and Gayla Grooms, and Rodney and Carla Grooms, all of Duncan; grandchildren, Kelly and Jesse Porter, Kari Grooms, Jordan Grooms, Kayla Grooms, Codye Grooms, Justin Grooms and Haylie Grooms; three great-granddaughters, Kinnedy, Kaycee and Jillian; a brother and his wife, Ralph and JoAnn Darter of Duncan; brothers-in-law, Wayne Brown and T.D. Grooms; sisters-in-law, Nellie Grooms, Patty Harris and Gloria Culp; a granddaughter-in-law, Leslie Grooms; a sister-in-law, Patsy Darter; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, LaWanda Brown; a brother, AC Darter; a sister-in-law, Derrelline Land; and a grandson, Joshua Grooms. Bearers will be Rusty Harris, Harold Wayne Harris, Jesse Porter, Ken Murphree, Kreg Murphree and Sam Darst.
