Bio
Martha was born soon after the Civil War ended. The South lost around 260,000 men in that horrible conflict. She lived to be 60 years old and raised seven children. Joe Beech is the Father of her children. Before passing judgement on her you might think about the shortage of men of marrying age in the 1890's. Many were killed in the Civil War with her Dad being wounded at least 3 times and Joe's Dad never returning from the war. While this does not excuse the behavior, it may help decendants understand how her judgement could have been clouded.
