GALVESTON - Lorean "Mimi" Fitch Newman, 76, of Texas City, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 1997, in Galveston, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 1997, at the First Presbyterian Church in Texas City, with the Rev. Rick Elliott and the Rev. Alan Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 1997, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home. Ms. Newman was born August 27.1921, in Gonzales, Texas. She was owner of Lorean's Beauty Salon, an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Texas City, she was a member of Danforth Hospital Auxiliary for 24 years, and Columbia Mainland Center Hospital Auxiliary for 5 years. She was past-president of the Texas City La Marque Pilot Club, a member of the Senior Friends Organization and the Texas City Historical Society. She was preceded in death by her husband E.H. "Pappy" Fitch in 1940, and W.F. "Bus" Newman in 1994. Survivors include her daughters, Judy Fitch Meredith of Texas City, and Lynda Fitch Evans of Houston; two stepsons, Jeff Newman and wife, Fran of Nashville, Tennessee and Dana Newman and wife, Tess of Pearland, Texas; a son-in-law David Evans of Houston, Texas; a stepdaughter, Janet Newman Lynchard of Houston; one brother, Olen Vackar of The Woodlands, Texas; one sister, Julia Schraeder of Waelder, Texas; her grandchildren, Susan McLeod and husband, Les of Texas City, Texas, Scott Meredith and wife, Rhonda of Houston, Texas, Lisa Howard and husband, Billy of Friendswood, Texas, Brad Evans and wife, Mindy of Houston, Texas; her great-grandchildren, Amber Howard, Garrett McLeod, Joshua Evans, Zachery Evans and numerous other relatives and friends.
