James Hughes settled in Lodomillo Township near Honey Creek in 1855 with his wife Margaret (Stevens) and five oldest children; Andrew, Catherine Jane (McKinnis), Amos, Sarah Elizabeth (Stalnaker), and Ambrose Hughes. James was a carpenter and joiner. He was known to make coffins from the black walnut on his property in which he cut, milled, planed, and built. James and Margaret had seven more children born in Lodomillo Township, with the exception of Carrie who was born during a brief stay in Ohio in 1861; Hannah, Esther, Burris, Carrie May (Hale), Minnie (Annis), Brithmath, and Warren. Noble Cemetery plot records show there are 4 Xs in this burial site which indicates there are 4 burials. Margaret is #40 lot owner. There are 2 Xs for #40. It is likely that James, Margaret, and their children that died in infancy Hannah (1857-Bef 1860), Esther (1857-1863), Brithmath (1869-1869), and Warren (1870-1870) are buried with them. Their daughters Carrie Hale (1861-1878) and Sarah Stalnaker are also buried in Noble Cemetery. It is believed Carrie is buried in Lot #16 which was owned by her husband Edwin Hale. Sarah is buried with her husband William Stalnaker. If there were grave markers, they have long disappeared.
