Bio
Clara Gartzke, age 104, of Watertown, SD, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Avantara Clark Care Center. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, September 7, 2022 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown with Pastor Iver Possehl officiating and Sharon Falk as the organist. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Clara Lenora Fuhrer was the fifth child born to Chris and Katherine (Hoffer) Fuhrer on July 22, 1918 in Butte County, NE. She attended country school near Butte. On September 27, 1947 she married Leo Kenneth Gartzke in Webster, SD. Two sons, Larry and Gary were born to this union. Clara was a devoted wife and mother. Her beloved husband, Leo passed away on March 18, 1978. Clara had lived in Watertown the majority of her life as a resident in the Tower Apartments and a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church. Family was the most important part of her life. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and socializing with her friends. She was always happy and was a bit of a jokester. Clara is survived by her sons, Larry (Janice Morin) Gartzke of Fargo, ND and Gary (Robin) Gartzke of Sioux Falls, SD; two grandchildren, Preston and Cameron; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo; three brothers, Arthur, Reuben and Emil; and one sister, Sarah. - Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel
