Leo was born on a farm southeast of Butte. He worked on the G.W. Short ranch from 1918-1924, when he moved to Winner, SD and started farming for himself. Leo married Rose Angel on 25 May 1925 in Tripp Co, SD at the Winner Catholic church. They continued on the farm in Tripp county and had children: Lorraine Rose and Kenneth Leo. In Fall, 1933, he and the family moved to work on the Spencer, NE farm of Edward Angel. On May 17, 1934, Leo, his brother-in-law, Estel Angel and Estel's son went fishing at Spencer Dam. Stepping in shallow water he didn't expect the deep hole that he suddenly went down in, the undercurrent caught his waders and although nearby fishermen threw him lines, he was not able to be pulled out. Estel Angel jumped in and found the submerged Leo who was dragged to safety but he could not be revived and cause of death was drowning. Funeral services were held on May 20th in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Spencer and burial was made in the parish cemetery.
