Bio

Rachel was born in Morris county, New Jersey. She first married John B. Moore, Sr., in Morris County, NJ, on Dec. 8. 1831, and had four children there. They moved to Sangamon county, Ill., arriving July 28, 1838, in what is now Gardner township, where one child was born. The five children are: ELIJAH V., MOSES H., DELIA V., JOHN B., Jr., and JULIA A. Her husband John B. Moore, Sr. died Aug. 18, 1839, in Sangamon county. After the death of John B. Moore, Rachel married Josiah Broadwell in Sangamon county, Oct. 25, 1842. They had five children, two of whom died young. The other children were: CYRUS F., GEORGE and JOSIAH, Jr. She died at the age of 75 yrs, 4ms, 10 dys and is buried in the same plot as her first husband John Moore and her 2nd husband Josiah Broadwell. Also buried in this plot is her son John B Moore, Jr. and her two small children with Josiah, Edwin and Edward.
