Bio

Shirley J. Bishop, age 85, of Williamsport, passed away August 16, 2022, at the Marion General Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on August 3, 1937, in Mount Gilead, to the late Merrill and Hazel (Coykendall) West. Shirley graduated from Northmor High School with the class of 1955. Finding true love, Shirley married Donald E. Bishop on November 7, 1958 in Williamsport. For nearly 10 years, Shirley enjoyed her part ownership of the Rail Fence Truck Stop where she worked the restaurant. Lots of memories were shared with family and friends with live music every weekend. A woman of faith, Shirley has attended Mount Gilead Church of Christ for over 50 years. As a family, they enjoyed going camping all over the United States. She was the best of navigators and could never get lost. She and Donald also enjoyed traveling all over to visit many different casinos over the years. Shirley loved to cook for her family. She also liked to swim, play tennis, and raise dogs. Left to cherish her memory includes her husband, Donald; children: Mark Sr. (Jami) Bishop of Bucyrus, Steve (Stacy) Bishop of Galion, and Gary (Vicki) Bishop of Bucyrus; grandchildren: Chris, Mark Jr., Kasondra, Shustien, Justin, Tabitha, Timothy, William, Preston, Vincent, and Chris; 11 great grandchildren; niece, Charlotte West; nephew, Eddie (Vicky) West; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: Merrill and Hazel; a great grandchild; siblings: George West, Raymond West, Sylvia West, and Helen McPeek; and her dog, Skeeter. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 7 PM on Monday, August 22, 2022, at the Mount Gilead Church of Christ. Friends may call one hour prior.
