Bio
George A. West, 86, of Marion, passed away at 6:39 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 2007, at OSU Medical Center in Columbus. Born July 25, 1921, in Morrow County, to the late Murl and Hazel (Coykendall) West. On July 27, 1941, he married Mildred M. (Hamby) West and she preceded him in death on March 27, 2005. George was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II. He was a member and a deacon at Forest Lawn Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post 584 and the Palace Theater Culture Art Association. He retired after many years as a mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Marion. He is survived by one grandson, James (Saretta) Holdcroft of Marion; one sister, Shirley J. (Donald) Bishop of Mount Gilead; and also survived by eight nephews and two nieces. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Holdcroft; one son, James West; one brother, Raymond M. West; two sisters, Helen V. McPeek; and Sylvia M. McPeek.
