Bio

Son of Henry Childs Isbell and Mary Cannon Isbell of Bristow, KY. Grandson of James Isbell Jr. and Caroline Childs Isbell. Great-grandson of James Isbell and Frances Tompkins Livingston of Albemarle, Virginia and Wilks County, N.C. (see Notable Southern Families by Zella Armstrong). Some family trees give his birth as 1813. He and wife Milly were divorced by 1880 and living apart in Hart County, Kentucky. The 1880 census shows him as aged 55 (born c1825) in June 1880 living with his son Zachariah at Waterloo, Hart Co., KY. Zach was living in Louisville by 1886. John Henry Isbell may have died 1880-1885. No readable grave marker found.
