Bio

Janice M. Metcalf, 81, of Grand Island, died Thursday, May 12, 2022, at her daughter's home after a lengthy illness. Janice was born May 14, 1940, to Neil A. and Donna (Hatfield) Pinkston in Grand Island. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1958 and attended Chadron State College. She married Ronald Metcalf on July 25, 1959, at the First Baptist Church in Grand Island. She worked for Northwestern Public Service Co., then was a stay-at-home mom until joining the Grand Island Public School system, and worked there until her retirement in 2005. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grand Island and the First Baptist Church in Georgetown, Texas. She enjoyed being with family and friends, baking, sewing blankets for animal rescues, traveling, church choir and being an avid sports enthusiast. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Dan Hansen of Austin, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Julie of McCook; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and the family dog, Leo. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two sisters. Private services will be at a later date. Published by The Grand Island Independent on May 14, 2022.
