Bio

John Russell Bratton was the son of Elijah Patton Bratton and Lucinda Elizabeth Fields. He marries Ora Taylor 10 Jul 1898 in Greenwood, Wise County, TX. In 1907 the couple moves to Hobart, where he ran a grocery store until his final illness and death. The couple had no children of their own, but raised three orphaned nieces, the daughters of Ora's sister Sephronia Taylor and Newton Barnett. The three nieces are Mary Zemirue Barnett Allen (#70433596), Martha Odessia Rule (# 23961766), and Leora Newty Barnett (#23970946). Martha and Newty are also buried in Hobart Rose Cemetery, with Newty, who never married, in the Bratton family plot. 1910 census Hobart Ward 3, Kiowa County, OK: John R. Bratton 34 head Ora N. Bratton 32 wife Gennive[Zamirue Mary] Barnett 13 niece Odessa Barnett 10 niece Newtie 7 niece Same three nieces appear with John and Ora Bratton on 1920 census, and Newty age 20 appears with them on 1930 census. The nieces are the children of Ora's sister Sephronia, wife of Newton Barnett.
