John Thomas Melton obituary John Melton, son of Montriville and Rachel Melton, was born in Madison, Indiana, Nov. 22, 1863, and died December 14, 1934, at the age of 71 years and 22 days. At the age of 6 years, he came with his parents to Clark County, Illinois. In 1888 he was united in marriage to Eliza Burnsides, who passed away in 1904. Seven children were born to this union. Three died in infancy, later a daughter, Eliza [Louisa], and a son, Elmer, passed away. In 1904 John married Amanda Wagner, who survives, along with two sons, Lyman of Porterville and Arthur of Hutsonville, Ill., a daughter, Vivian Way of Oblong, and a step-daughter, Blanche Masters of Oblong, Ill. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren; four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Dan Stackhouose, Mrs. Jeanette Bradford, Mrs. Clara Graham, Mrs. Virgil Lincicum, William and Amos Melton. In 1916 he moved from Clark county to Crawford county where he lived until his death. He was a good father and a helpful neighbor. Funeral services were held at Bennett church south of Martinsville, conducted by Rev. Roscoe Deverick. Interment was in the Bennett Cemetery. This obituary, which was written in 1934 by an unknown family member, was located among Montriville Melton memorabilia.
