Bio

Betty Jo Sims, 79, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, and was escorted by the heavenly host into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Betty was born June 29, 1933, in Estelline, Texas, and was the oldest of her brothers and sisters. Eventually, the family left Fort Ord, Calif., in the later 1940s and moved to Jerome, where she grew up and went to school and where she was introduced to and became a member of the Jerome Bible Baptist Church. After high school and while raising a family, Betty and her husband, Art, attended college at the Bible Baptist College in Springfield, Mo., for missionary service in the Philippine Islands. Betty and her three children were fluent in speaking and writing the Tagalog language. The family served 25 years in the Philippines as a Bible Baptist missionary family, teaching the word of God to children and adults as well as providing assistance and food to those who needed it. She eventually returned to Jerome to take care of and be with her parents until their death. Betty was an active life member of the Jerome Bible Baptist Church since the early 1950s. Betty worked in the Jerome Cheese laboratory for 14 years before retiring. Betty is survived by a daughter, Lahondra S. Estrella of Harrison, Ark., and her children, Scott and his children Martin and Elizabeth of Harrison, Ark., Stephen and his children Tyler and Alexa of Everett, Wash., Shane and Jessie and their children Hannah and Ava of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Samlee of Harrison, Ark., and Krystal and Matt and their children Malaya and Chesa of Harrison, Ark.; a daughter, Sharon K and Lowell D Duggins of Harrison, Ark., and their children Joshua and Carrie and their children Lucas and Silas of Kennett, Mo., and Jerm and Leslie and their children Matthew, Trenton and Emily of Harrison, Ark.; and a son, Carson and Janet Sims of Gladston, Mo., and their children John and Amy and their children Hayden, Josie, Ella and Lillian of Willard, Mo., and Jason and Jamie and their children Carrie, Gunner and twin girls on the way from Pleasant Hope, Mo. Betty's siblings include Lucille Higgenbotham of Carthage, Mo.; James Jackson (Yrma) of LaPlace, La.; Anietha Cameron of Twin Falls; John D. Jackson of Kenton, Okla.; and Robert S. Jackson Jr. (Jennifer) of Twin Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert S. Jackson Sr. and Laura Mae Jackson; as well as her son-in-law, Reynaldo (Buick) Estrella.
