Donald V. Fries passed away peacefully in his Nampa home Thursday morning, February 17, 2022, at the age of 73 surrounded by his family. He was born in Alliance, Nebraska on October 10, 1948 to George and Esther Fries. The couple arrived in Idaho in 1962, and Don made this beautiful state his forever home. As a child Don had a passion for baseball. He played for an American Legion team in Nebraska, and his Nampa American B Legion team went all the way to the championship. His other childhood passion was finding trouble with his brothers and their friends. Don was associated with the Nampa High School Class of 1966. At the age of seventeen, he enlisted with the Navy. This adventure took him to Vietnam for two tours as a Navy Seabee, a member of the United States Naval Construction Battallion. He lived the Seabee motto "Construimus Batuimus" - "We build, we fight" - throughout his entire life. Once a Seabee always a Seabee, as Don could build just about anything. Working in construction was his specialty. Don was best known for both his overwhelmingly kind heart and his hilarious sense of humor. He loved being around people and going places, and he constantly stayed busy. Even in retirement Don could be found on the golf course with his specialty cart. In addition to being the life of any party, everyone knew Don as the one person who would always help a friend or family member out. We will be celebrating Don's well-lived life on Friday, March 4th, 2022 from 3:00pm-7pm, at the Rodeo Club located inside the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa. Entry/Gate 3. We invite everyone who had the privilege of knowing Don to bring a picture or two and share a story about how he touched your life. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his honor to the Disabled American Veterans (https://www.dav.org) or the The Fisher House Foundation. (https://fisherhouse.org
