Bio

Margaret Brune Zajicek, lifelong resident of Columbus TX, passed away peacefully at home on February 7, 2022 at the age of 90. Her son Larry was by her side. Margaret was born on March 23, 1931 to Max and Freida Klimple Brune in Columbus, Texas. She attended school in Columbus until she quit to go to work at Mary and Martha's Café where she met the man who would become her husband. Margaret is survived by, two sons - Ken and wife Karen of Australia and Larry and wife Brenda of Meadows Place, Texas. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Kirsten, Drew and Taiha, and seven great grandchildren, all in Australia; many dear nieces and nephews, and brother-in-law Bill Douthitt. Three spoiled house cats also survive her. Margaret is preceded in death by Raymond her husband of seventy-three years. She is also proceeded in death by her father Max and mother Freida, brothers Max II, Harold (Bubba) and sisters Ruby DeDear, Lily Kucherka, Delores Brune and Evelyn Douthitt; and many canine companions they had over the years. She was the last of seven siblings and dearly missed all of them. After the passing of her father, Margaret assumed the position of matriarch of the family for her brothers and sisters. She took great pleasure in having many family gatherings at her home in Columbus, particularly at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She provided a home where family could come and have a great time, great food and drink and play cut-throat straight dominos. Margaret was a loving caregiver to Raymond, her father, mother-in-law (Granny) and sisters Delores and Ruby in their final years. Margaret was a loving mother and doted on her two sons. She was a generous and giving person. Margaret enjoyed working outside the home well into her seventies, but caring for her family was her passion and calling. She also enjoyed being the second mother to many of her son's friends as her home was a gathering place for pool, dominoes and cards when they were in school. Margaret was respected and cherished by many young people she worked with over the years and called "Mom' by many of them. Margaret was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of Americas Court Mary Queen of the Snows # 1588. The family extends its sincere thanks for all of those who provided friendship over the years and spiritual and physical care for her in her final years when she became homebound. Visitation will be Friday, February 11, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. A rosary will be held at 5:30 PM.
