Raymond is survived by his wife of 72 years, Margaret (Brune) Zajicek; two sons, Ken and wife Karen of Australia and Larry and wife Brenda of Meadows Place, Texas. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Kirsten, Drew and Taiha and seven great grandchildren. Raymond is preceded in death by his father Fred and mother Johanna; brothers Victor, Albert and Hugo and sisters Leona Janes and Edna Sodalok; and the many canine companions he had over the years. Raymond was drafted into the U.S. Army at age 18 and was sent to war in Europe. In November of 1944 he was fighting in Belgium during WWII, one of the coldest winters in years. He was evacuated for medical treatment due to frozen feet a few weeks before the Battle of the Bulge. After discharge he returned to Fayetteville until he moved to Columbus, Texas in 1947. He was working as a mechanic when he met Margaret Brune at Mary & Martha’s Café where she worked and he frequented. They were married on November 10, 1948. In those early years he worked in the oilfield. While recovering from a surgery he studied to be an electrician and eventually became a Master Electrician working for Drymalla Construction Company. Raymond was an ace handyman, able to fix almost anything. In his early retirement years he was a maintenance man for McDonald’s restaurant in Columbus, Sealy, La Grange and Giddings. Raymond was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. He was a proud member of both VFW Post 6113 and the American Legion Post 383.
