Bio
She was born in Dwina, Virginia; daughter of the late James H. and Martha Holbrook Bays. Renie as she was affectionately known was the last living Grandchild of Henry Wise and Nancy Buchanan Holbrook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Cecil Holbrook, whol she married June 15, 1974 at Mary Martin Presbyterian Church; sisters Wilma Evans, Gladys, and Estelle, brothers Homer, Henry Orville, James Elmer, Lewis Carlton, Willard Gothard, William and Truman. two step-children, Loady Palmer Holbrook and Ruth Smith. Irene was a devoted member and elder of Mary Martin Memorial Presbyterian Church in Dry Fork, Coeburn, Virginia. After graduating in 1948 from St. Paul High School, she worked for several years at Willis' in St. Paul, Virginia. She is survived by one step-daughter, Dixie Mitchell, wife of the late Dale Mitchell of Castlewood, Virginia; one step-daughter-in-law, Rita Holbrook, wife of the late Palmer "Bud" Holbrook of Kingsport, Tennessee; one step-son-in-law, O'Dell Smith, husband of the late Ruth Smith of Lake Wells, Florida; four-step-grandchildren, Mitzi Johnson and husband, Gregg of Castlewood, Virginia, Derek Smith and wife, Lisa of Orlando, Florida, Palmer Holbrook and wife, Debi of Kingsport, Tennessee, and Kimberly Milligan and husband, John of Iowa; ten step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; special nephew, Charles Russell Evans; and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
