Pfc. Marvin J. Wentrcek, United States Army, has been killed in action, it was disclosed in a telegram to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wentrcek of Davilla, on May 24, 1945. Pfc. Wentrcek has been previously reported missing in action on Feb. 7, 1945, in a telegram to his parents. The message received on May 24, from General Ulio, Adjutant General of the Army, said that Pfc. Wentrcek was killed in action on March 12, 1945. There is a discrepancy in these dates. In addition to the telegram the parents have received a letter from Capt. Jasper C. Massegee, chaplain of the 417th Infantry, expressing sympathy over the death of Pfc. Wentrcek. According to information in the letter from Captain Massegee, an attack was being made against a heavily fortified enemy position on the Siegrief line. Continuing he said: "The unit to which your son belonged was making a crossing of the Sauer river into Germany, north of Echternatch. During the crossing, the assault boat in which he was riding was overturned after being shelled by enemy mortar and machine gun fire. The river was swollen and the current swift. A diligent search was made but without results." The family lived in Cameron before moving to Davilla. Ed. C. Wentreck, father of Pfc. Marvin J. Wentrcek, is a veteran of World War I. Another son Pvt. E.T. Wentrcek is in the army and was recently stationed at Camp Fannin. Cameron Herald, Cameron, Texas, May 31, 1945.
