WARD, MRS. MARY ELIZABETH (BETSY), - age 76, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday June 25, 2000 at her home and is resting in the arms of Jesus after a struggle with cancer. Mrs. Ward was a charter member of Son Light Baptist Church and retired from Alpha Industries. Betsy and husband Bill traveled in surrounding coun ties, singing gospel music for many years. They also had a daily radio program called, "The Hub Spinning Wheel", on radio station WROL for the Hub Department Store. Preceded in death by her husband, Rev. William B. Ward; and step-daughter, Evelyn Tharpe. On eday she will welcome home, daughters and husbands, Juanita Selvidge of Knoxville, Wanda and Gary Childress, Trussville, Ala., Kathy and Jerry Cox, Shirley and Jerry Trott, Dorothy and Eddie Myers all of Knoxville; sons and former wives, Ronald Ward and Kim, Melvin Ward and Kathy all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Gina Cox, Tonya Strange, Lisa Cox, Gary Childress, Jr., Christy and Ward and Kie Ward My of Knoxyle: great-granddaughters, Chasity and Angel Strange; step-children, Carroll, Billy Jo, David and Anita Ward; several step-grandchildren; sisters, Stella Short, Janice Greear of Coeburn, Va., Iris Greear of Defiance, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; special friends Mardi Dowling, Tootsie Bowling, Gertha and Jeannie Hurst. Funeral services will be 2 pm Wednesday at Son Light Baptist Church on Rifle Range Road in Halls with Rev. Eddie Myers and Rev. Clyde Lakin officiating. Mrs. Ward will lie in state from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Mortuary
