Eugene V. "Gene" Hajek, 87, of Inez passed away Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011. He was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Shiner to the late Anton and Janie Migl Hajek. Gene served his country in the United States Navy during World War II on a destroyer escort ship. He was a farmer in the Vanderbilt area for many years and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Inez. Survivors include his sons, Bill Hajek and fiancee, Emily Daniel of Dalton, Georgia, Larry Franz of Inez, Dwain Franz of Schulenburg, Walter Franz of Austin, Eddie Franz of Houston; brothers, Jerry Hajek of Victoria, Ben Hajek of Auburn, Alabama; one grandson; numerous step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Stock Hajek; daughter, Janell Hajek; daughter-in-law, Magdalan Hajek; his second wife, Ruby Franz Hajek; sister, Irene Hajek; and brother, Johnny Hajek. Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, with a rosary to follow at 7 p.m., at Rosewood Funeral Chapels. A mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. George Henninger and Rev. Gabriel Bentil officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council. Pallbearers will be Kevin Hajek, Jerry Hajek Jr., Jason Demmer, Trey Franz, Colter Franz and Adolph Welfel. Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O.
