Dr. Benjamin "Ben" Hajek of Auburn, Alabama passed away at the age of 86 years. Ben was born on September 17, 1931 in Shiner, Texas to Anton and Janie (Migl) Hajek. After serving in the United States Army for three years, Ben went on to earn his Bachelors Degree from Texas A&M and Masters and Doctorate Degrees from Auburn University. Ben was a beloved Professor in the Agronomy and Soils Department at Auburn University for over 27 years and was known by his closest students simply as "Doc". Some of Ben's proudest achievements include leading four-time National Soil Judging Championship Teams, election as a Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America, and induction into the Alabama Agriculture Hall of Honor in 2017. After retiring from education, Ben turned to his other passions including: cooking his famous Bar-B-Que and Chili; active involvement at St. Michaels Church; and working at his son's farm. Ben was preceded in death by his parents, sister Irene Hajek, and brothers Johnny Hajek and Eugene Hajek. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Rosalie Maraggia Hajek; brother Jerry and Bernice Groth Hajek; sons Dr. Michael Hajek of Greely, Colorado, Mark Hajek of Griffin, Georgia, Dr. Phillip Hajek and wife Debbie Odom Hajek of Albany, Georgia, Paul Hajek and wife Claire O'Daniel Hajek of Marietta, Georgia; and grandchildren Andrew Hajek, Jaima Hajek, Taylor Deen, and Ashley Hajek. www.FrederickDean.com 4/19/18
